Best Chinese/Italian Restaurants in Manhattan, New York?

I'm going to New York next week, I've been a couple of times before but this time I want to eat where New Yorkers eat! I always end up eating in the typical, over-priced restaurants in Times Square, so I want to know what are the best Chinese and Italian restaurants in New York. The ones where they have good food (but not with loads of fancy dishes, simple dishes like pasta etc.), a good price and not a typical place where tourists would go, i.e where the natives eat!
