Is it true,Ashrams are funded by foreign countries?

There is a perception among the civic society that many of the Ashrams are funded by vested outside interests to bring down the morale of the Indian citizens at large. I have been attending a very famous internationally known ashram in Bangalore. I go there just for curiosity. The teachings by the so called God man of the Ashram is always negative. He speaks about non violence and simple living. He wants us to lead a very simple life and be contents with what we have. And ofcourse in all such cases he leads a five star existence. The so called satvik food which he offers to his followers is enough to kill all types of desires. I have read somewhere that vested foreign hands have always encouraged such living so that it suits their schemes. What with millions of devotees across the country living without any ambitions and self respect. I have seen many families being destroyed by this Guru. Add to this he will never speak about family values. Can some one give a serious thought and answer me. Is it true?
